White Oak is one of the mightiest of the noble Oaks, and is claimed by several states as their official tree (including Illinois). This tree is one of the most beautiful and majestic trees available. Native to Illinois, White Oak can be found peppering the landscape in the prairie countryside as well as in long established parks and golf courses in more urban areas. Because of its slower speed of growth, this tree will look smaller than other shade trees of a similar caliper, but the payoff is large. White Oak is always a great choice in the landscape and is great for attracting wildlife, and this native tree is resistant to powdery mildew.
Where to put it:
White Oak should be planted in open areas in the back or front yard, at least 15-20ft away from buildings.
What it needs:
White Oak is an extremely tolerant tree which can grow in almost any conditions, preferring Full sun and moist, well-drained acidic soil.
